The Australian regulator ACMA has published clarifications regarding the ban on the participation of public figures in gambling advertising. The restrictions will take effect on January 1, 2027.
The ban will apply to current and former professional athletes, celebrities, and social media influencers. The rules will cover advertising on social networks, online games, news sites, television, and radio.
From the same date, licensed interactive betting operators will be prohibited from entering into agreements involving such individuals to promote betting in Australia. The document provides for certain exceptions, including for specialized services and horse racing programs.
